La Ultima Parada 2016 – Bloco do Sol

Bloco del Sol, the Brazilian drumming group in San Jose joins La Ultima Parada 2016! Bloco del Sol will help kick off the comparsa at the very start of the event so get there early and don’t miss the opening of La Ultima Parada!

 

Bloco Do Sol is a community ensemble of youth and adult students based in San Jose at the School of Arts and Culture at the Mexican Heritage Plaza. The ensemble has provided exciting performances featuring Brazilian Drumming and Percussion music at the Mexican Heritage Plaza Theater, Cesar Chavez Day Celebration 2012, SubZERO Festival 2013-2014 and numerous private events.  In 2015 Bloco Do Sol was featured on the show Latino Focus on the CreaTV Network, performed at the San Jose JapanTown Film Festival opening evening gala, as well as, at the Music in the Park “Salsa night” Concert in downtown San Jose at the Plaza de Cesar Chavez, the 2015 San Francisco Carnaval and the 2015 San Jose Jazz SummerFest.

 

13872726_10208842756439619_4672738729598406638_nDirector Jimmy Biala teaches Brazilian Percussion programs to many youth students in the Evergreen, San Jose Unified and Campbell Unified School districts and is a faculty member and assistant teacher at the San Jose Jazz Camp, the California Brazil Camp and is an artist in residence with Villa Montalvo Arts Education and the School of Arts and Culture/ Mexican Heritage Plaza of San Jose.
