La Ultima Parada: A Celebration of Life on the Day of the Dead

San Jose’s long-standing Dia de los Muertos celebration returns in a major way with La Ultima Parada, an all-day spectacular!

La Ultima Parada 2017  plans to showcase the vibrancy of Mexican culture through a collection of cultural festivities, dances, and musical performances that honor the living and the dead.

The School of Arts & Culture at the Mexican Heritage Plaza opens its doors to La Ultima Parada at the contemporary cultural landmark in San Jose, providing the perfect platform for this celebration. Join us as we celebrate life on the day of the dead on Saturday, October 28 & Sunday, October 29.

SATURDAY, OCTOBER 28th, 2017 | 6-11pm

Alum Rock Avenue Altar Walk & Celebrate Mayfair Cumbia Dance Party

FREE & open to the public (No ticket required)

Alum Rock Altar Walk, from 6-8 pm, will feature altars and other art installations at 30 to 40 locations in the four business blocks surrounding the Mexican Heritage Plaza (MHP). Following the art walk, the “Celebrate Mayfair Dance” from 8-11pm at the School of Arts and Culture at the Mexican Heritage Plaza will feature Cumbia music and other Latin beats.

 

 

SUNDAY, OCTOBER 29th, 2017 | 12-8pm

$5.00 Ticket required for ages 10 & up.

La Ultima Parada @School of Arts and Culture at the Mexican Heritage Plaza

Sunday from 12-8 pm, the event will incorporate a Comparsa (parade), La Viejada (community masked-dance with over 200 participants); live musical presentations on three stages, ethnic food and drink, Day of the Dead visual art displays (altars, CampoSanto, community art, hands-on art activities), and Mercado (marketplace), and LUP’s signature giant ferris wheel. The evening will close out with an amazing concert at 6 pm with musical sensation Quetzal, featuring Aloe Blacc & Maya Jupiter.
